Written by Sylvain Ledda, Réhahn is the first biographical essay devoted to the artist’s life and entire creative journey, presented through his photographs, personal stories and the experiences that have shaped his work.

Structured around defining places, encounters and artistic themes, the book traces a journey that begins with Réhahn’s childhood in Normandy and continues in Hoi An, Vietnam. It reveals lesser known aspects of his personal history and follows the evolution of his photography, from his most celebrated portraits and his work devoted to cultural heritage to his recent explorations of photographic Impressionism.

Sylvain Ledda’s many conversations with Réhahn provide access to the stories behind the images and to the decisions that guided his artistic development. The result is an in depth biographical essay that brings together the artist’s major works with the story of his life, his encounters and the ideas that continue to shape his work.

Réhahn will be published in France by Éditions Hermann on 12 November 2026. The edition published in Vietnam is offered in two distinct versions. This page presents the English version. A French version is also available.

About the author

Sylvain Ledda is Professor of French Literature and Arts at the University of Rouen Normandy. A specialist in Romanticism and nineteenth century cultural history, he is particularly renowned for his work on Alfred de Musset and Alexandre Dumas.

The author of several biographies and major scholarly works, he has notably published a biography of Alexandre Dumas and edited Dumas’s Valois cycle for the prestigious Bibliothèque de la Pléiade. His research also explores the relationships between literature, theatre, music and the visual arts.

Drawing on extensive conversations with Réhahn, his essay places into perspective the locations, encounters, experiences and aesthetic reflections that have shaped the artist’s journey. His perspective as a biographer and specialist in the relationships between literature and the arts places Réhahn’s photographic work within a broader reflection on creation, memory and transmission.
